Members of the Blue Star Mothers attended the World War I commemoration ceremony on Nov. 8, 2018, in the Michigan State Capitol rotunda in Lansing, Michigan. The Blue Star Mothers was formed after the Flint News Advertiser printed a coupon in 1942 asking mothers of serviceman to meet in support the cause during WWII, after which chapters opened in the surrounding states to do the same.
