The Hampton Roads Naval Museum proudly hosted a re-enlistment ceremony this afternoon aboard the USS Wisconsin (BB 64). HM2 Bernard Akoli, from the USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78) proudly held up his right hand and re-enlisted in front of members of his command and his family. Akoli, a native of Ghana, had the opportunity to reflect on his military service. He reflected on his humble upbringing in Ghana, attending high school in Ghana on a scholarship, completing graduate studies in Europe and finally gaining his US Citizenship through his service in the US Navy. He also thanked his family and members of his command for attending the afternoon ceremony. The re-enlistment ceremony took place in-front of the iconic turret #1. The Wisconsin is one of four Iowa-Class Battleships, and is moored permanently next to the Hampton Roads Naval Museum as a museum ship. The Wisconsin is a popular venue for military ceremonies for commands in the Hampton Roads, Virginia area; and is available without cost through the museum for this purpose. To inquire, contact their Special Events Coordinator at Thomas.Dandes@navy.mil or at (757) 322-3106. (US Navy Photo by Max Lonzanida/Released).
