Tech Sgt. Robert Cowherd moves up the court during wheelchair basketball practice at the NE Region Warrior CARE Event at Joint Base Andrews, MD. He said he had avoided coming to these events because he felt he could not do what he use to be able to do. Today he found that he could do so much more and learned a valuable lesson from the coach: "Never apologize." The biggest moving part of the AFW2 Warrior CARE Events is the adaptive sports. It's dynamic and fast-moving, giving each warrior an opportunity to see what they can do versus what they cannot. These wounded warriors often come to the events with a prescribed lists of things they cannot do and the coaching staff work hard to move around those mental barriers to increase their restorative care for long-term success in their overall recovery.
