Fallon Emery, a new honorary member of the 437th Operations Support Squadron, accepts a challenge coin from Chief Master Sgt. Ronnie Phillips, 437th Airlift Wing command chief master sergeant, Nov. 7, 2018, at Joint Base Charleston, S.C., as part of the Airman for a Day program. During her visit, 14-year-old Emery met with Phillips and Col. Clint ZumBrunnen, right, 437th AW commander, toured a C-17 Globemaster III aircraft and flight simulator, learned about night vision and other military technology and controlled an explosive ordnance disposal robot. Emery has been battling a glioblastoma multiforme – one of the deadliest forms of brain tumors – for nearly five years after being diagnosed at age nine and given 6-14 weeks to live. The Airman for a Day program recognizes the resilience of children battling various illnesses by enabling them to observe Air Force units and experience their culture for a day.
