A U.S. Marine with 7th Engineer Support Battalion, Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force 7, assists U.S. Customs and Border Protection suspending operations at the San Ysidro Port of Entry in California while CBP officers and agents respond to a civil disturbance, Nov. 25, 2018. Department of Defense military personnel will not be conducting law enforcement functions, but are authorized to provide force protection for Customs and Border Protection personnel and help make sure CBP personnel can perform their assigned Federal functions. U.S. Northern Command is providing military support to the Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Customs and Border Protection to secure the Southern border of the United States.
