Equipment Operator 3rd Class Calan Derue, assigned to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 1, Alpha Company, operates a Cat 374F excavator with prototype tiered pliers to place underlayer stone along the shoreline of Naval Station Rota, Spain, Nov. 14, 2018. Derue is one of the few personnel licensed to operate this equipment in the Naval Construction Force. This project serves to stabilize the eroding shoreline and protect the base housing. NMCB 1 is forward deployed to execute construction, humanitarian and foreign assistance, and theater security cooperation in the 6th Fleet area of operations.
