Mrs. Ruth B. Cunningham, Coast Guard Medical Corpsman 2nd Class and trailblazer for women's equality, celebrates her 100th birthday on August 26, 2018 in Indianapolis, Indiana. At the height of World War II, Ruth volunteered for Semper Paratus Always Ready, better known as SPARS, the United States Coast Guard Women’s Reserve, where she attended to the medical needs of those deploying and returning from the war.
