181130-N-ID678-0004 ANNAPOLIS Md, (Nov 30, 2018) Vice Adm. Ted Carter, 62nd Superintendent of the United States Naval Academy and Chris Jahring, Vice President Turner Construction, during the topping off ceremony of Hopper Hall. The practice of topping off a building with an evergreen tree on the peak is a Scandinavian or Viking tradition and is commonly used to celebrate the completion of the major structural components of a building. Hopper Hall will include classrooms, teaching and research laboratories, lecture halls, offices, multi-purpose space, an observatory, loading dock, and research and testing tank in support of the engineering and weapons labs. The construction is expected to be complete by September 2020. (U.S. Navy photo by Kenneth D. Aston Jr/Released)
