U.S. Marines with 1st Law Enforcement Battalion, Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force 7, board a CH-53E Super Stallion at Naval Air Facility El Centro, Dec. 6, 2018. Department of Defense military personnel will not be conducting law enforcement functions, but are authorized to provide force protection for Customs and Border Protection personnel and help make sure CBP personnel can perform their assigned Federal functions. U.S. Northern Command is providing military support to the Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Customs and Border Protection to secure the southern border of the United States.
