Sea lions perch on top of buoys lining the Sinclair Inlet onboard Naval Base Kitsap, Nov. 19. In October 1886, Adm. Alfred Thayer Mahan served as President of the Commission to select a site for a Navy Yard on the Pacific Coast in the region of Puget Sound. In 1901, Naval Station Puget Sound, became known as Navy Yard Puget Sound, following General Order No. 56.
