A UH-N1 Huey, carrying scout snipers, passes the USS New York while approaching the USNS Arctic during a Simulated Expanded, Visit, Board, Search and Seizure Dec. 4. Marines with the 24th MEU's Force Reconnaissance Platoon and Security Element, Headquarters and Service Company, Battalion Landing Team 1st Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 24th MEU, conduct the EVBSS during their Composite Unit Training Exercise, the first of three such exercises between the 24th MEU and their Navy counterparts, Amphibious Squadron 8 (PHIBRON 8). The training is meant to enhance the skills needed to board a vessel from sea and air while underway at sea, a mission they could face while deployed. COMPTUEX is scheduled to take place Nov. 28 to Dec. 21 and is focused on building cohesion between the 24th MEU and PHIBRON 8 in conducting amphibious operations, crisis response, and limited contingency operations while operating from the sea.
