KOORIYAMA, Japan (Aug. 25, 2018) – A local government official from Tomioka town celebrates with a cheer participant during the Tomioka Town Social Welfare Center summer festival. Chief Petty Officers (CPO) and CPO selectees from Naval Air Facility (NAF) Atsugi area commands joined the cheer routine led by a local cheerleading troupe during the event. The festival, currently in its 7th year, is held in Kooriyama where citizens from Tomioka relocated to in the aftermath of the March 11, 2011, natural disasters which struck Japan’s Tohoku region. During the festival, NAF Atsugi’s CPO selectees demonstrated U.S. Navy and Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force cadences, sang Anchors Aweigh and joined their hosts in various other performances.
