The Japan Northern Army Commanding General, Lt. Gen. Masato Taura, presents a coin to Pvt. Christian Bezanilla, planning and operations, America’s First Corps, during Yama Sakura 75 at Camp Higashi-Chitose, Hokkaido, Japan, Dec. 14, 2018. Taura and America’s First Corps Commanding General, Lt. Gen. Gary Volesky, plan to recognize Soldiers from both Armies daily in a Hero of the Battle ceremony for their contributions to the exercise. Yama Sakura is a bilateral event that strengthens the alliance between the U.S. Army and the Japan Ground Self Defense Force.
