MacAiden Gallegos speaks to media representatives Saturday, Dec. 15, after a ceremony in the Frontier Theater on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson awarding his father, Staff Sgt. Justin Gallegos, the Distinguished Service Cross, the Army’s second highest award for bravery during battle. Staff Sgt. Gallegos was initially posthumously awarded the Silver Star for his actions during the Battle of Kamdesh, Oct. 3, 2009, at Combat Outpost Keating in Afghanistan’s Nuristan Province.
