Sgt. James A. Gill, an instructor and competitor with the Marine Corps Combat Shooting Team, instructs Marines with Intel Support Battalion, Camp Upshur, as he runs them through combat marksmanship drills at the High Risk Personnel Range at the Calvin A. Lloyd Range Complex at Marine Corps Base Quantico, Va., Dec. 14, 2011. Gill, from San Antonio, has been on the combat shooting team for two years. Gill transferred from the Wounded Warrior Battalion — East, where he was recoving from an improvised explosive device blast that cost him is right foot and left eye in April, 2006 while deployed to Iraq with 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment. The combat team has only existed for a few years and is now finding its place in the Corps. Seven Marines, all with an infantry background, serve on the team where they represent the Marine Corps in shooting competitions, as well as test combat techniques and instruct combat marksmanship. "I love the team," Gill said. "It's the best job in the Corps. My ultimate goal is to deploy again, but if I can't immediately oversee the fight there, the next best thing is teaching and passing on information to those who will use it overseas."
