U.S. Marine Corps Gunnery Sgt. James E. Whitehead is an avionics technician with, and maintenance control chief for, Marine Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Squadron 1. Whitehead, a native of Troy, Ala., and a 1988 graduate of Goshen High School, is currently deployed to Camp Leatherneck, Afghanistan. Whitehead's squadron uses unmanned aerial vehicles, like the RQ-7B Shadow, to provide aerial reconnaissance and surveillance for coalition troops in southwestern Afghanistan.
