Maj. Gen. Russ Handy, 9th Air and Space Expeditionary Task Force-Iraq commander, and Chief Master Sgt. Mike Hanning, 9th AETF-I command chief, encase the guidon of the 9th AETF-I, closing a chapter in the history of the Air Force’s combat operations in Iraq at an undisclosed location in Southwest Asia Dec. 18, 2011. The ceremonies presiding officer, Lt. Gen. David Goldfein (right), U.S. Air Forces Central Command commander, deferred the encasing of the 9th AETF-I to Handy and Hanning, the unit’s last commander and command chief.
