This dedication plaque sits outside the front entrance of the former SM-1 nuclear power plant on Fort Belvoir, marking the facility’s dedication on April 29, 1957. The facility was operational from then through 1973 when it was deactivated and subsequently partially decommissioned. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is working closely with Fort Belvoir personnel on the planning phase to perform the final decommissioning of SM-1.
