U.S. Air Force 2nd Lt. Josh Thompson, now a 49th Wing Public Affairs officer, learned in 2014 that his five years as an Air Force ROTC cadet at Sacramento State University gained him a degree but not the commission he’d been expecting. As an exercise in resiliency, Thompson then challenged his physical limitations improving his overall fitness, and after three more years, he earned his commission through Officer Training School in January 2018.
