Lt. Col. John Painter stands in front of the chapel at the Ralph H. Johnson Veteran's Affairs Medical Center, Jan 5, Charleston, S.C. Painter has been a chaplain in the Air Force Reserves for 15 years. In September 2009, he volunteered to deploy to Iraq for 5-months. He also works as a chaplain at the VA hospital. Whether in uniform or not, he serves as an everyday spiritual needs minister, providing religious counseling to service members past and present as well as there families. Painter is the wing chaplain at the 315th Airlift Wing.
