Red Cross volunteers pass out cigars to members of the 27th Division who paraded up Fifth Avenue in New York on March 24, 1919 the day before the massive victory parade for all division members on March 25. Soldiers reporting into New York City armories the day before the big parade conducted smaller parades around the city. 20,000 members of the 27th Division, which was made up of National Guard Soldiers from around New York, took part in the March 25 parade up Fifth Avenue.
