190216-M-YD783-2070 U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Cesar Torres, left, and Cpl. Rex Whitley, right, both powerline mechanics with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit, install a fuel crossover into an AV-8B Harrier during maintenance on the flight deck of the Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Kearsarge (LHD-3). Marines attached to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 264 (REIN) routinely perform maintenance on the harriers to ensure they will remain operationally functional throughout their time at sea. Marines and Sailors with the 22nd MEU and Kearsarge Amphibious Ready Group are deployed to the 5th Fleet area of operations in support of naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central Region, connecting the Mediterranean and the Pacific through the western Indian Ocean and three strategic choke points.
