ARABIAN SEA (Feb. 27, 2019) U.S. Marines with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit prepare to conduct maintenance on the wing of an AV-8B Harrier jet in the hangar bay of the Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Kearsarge (LHD-3). The Marines with Marine Attack Squadron 231 routinely perform maintenance on aircraft aboard the Kearsarge to ensure that they remain functional throughout their time at sea. Marines and Sailors with the 22nd MEU and Kearsarge Amphibious Ready Group are deployed to the 5th Fleet area of operations in support of naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central Region, connecting the Mediterranean and the Pacific through the western Indian Ocean and three strategic choke points.
