Leaders from I Marine Expeditionary Force (MEF) and 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing (MAW) observe a CH-53E SuperStallion depart from the Catalina Island Conservancy Airport in the Sky on Catalina Island, Calif., March 1. Senior leaders visited the "Airport in the Sky” to observe the project and thank the Marines and Seabees for their arduous work. The “Airport in the Sky” project falls under the Department of Defense innovative readiness training program. 3rd MAW's partnership with the Catalina Island Conservancy is a unique opportunity for Marines to conduct applicable training while also helping the community.
