Capt. Gregory A. Lizak (center left), assistant communications officer, 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit, I Marine Expeditionary Force, was awarded the 2011 Copernicus Award from members of the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association during a ceremony at the San Diego Convention Center, Jan. 24. He was joined by members of his command, Col. Christopher D. Taylor (left), commanding officer of 13th MEU, Maj. Noah Komnick (center right), communications officer, and Sgt. Maj. Juan Hidalgo (right), sergeant major of 13th MEU. He received the award for his execution and innovation of San Antonio class ship communication advancements, Marine Corps Air-Ground Task Force broadband communications and advance over-the-horizon narrowband communications.
