Hospital Corpsman 2nd Class Adam Carlucci, embarked aboard High Speed Vessel Swift, observes a tarantula that Lt. Cmdr. Luis Loayza, a doctor and liaison of the Naval Medical Research Unit, holds at Centro Nacional de Productos Biologicos, an anti-venom clinic in Chorrillos, Peru. Carlucci is attached to the Maritime Civil Affairs Team aboard Swift and is participating in several subject matter expert exchanges during HSV-Southern Partnership Station 2012. HSV-SPS 12 is an annual deployment of U.S. Navy ships and assets to the U.S. Southern Command's area of responsibility in the Caribbean, Central and South America. The exercise involves information sharing with navies, coast guards and civilian services throughout the region. It also reiterates the countries' partnership and commitment to regional cooperation throughout Latin America.
