Staff Sgt. Rex Christensen, Northern Warfare Training Center instructor, talks with his squad of Cold Weather Leaders Course 19-004 students after their first over-snow movement on snowshoes at NWTC’s Black Rapids Training Site March 1, 2019. NWTC provides cold weather and mountain warfare training to U.S. military and designated personnel to enhance U.S. and coalition partners’ war-fighting capabilities. On order, the unit assists in rescue and recovery operations worldwide and conducts outreach missions that incorporate mountain and cold regions operations in support of the US INDO-PACOM Theater Security Cooperation Plan. In Alaska, NWTC conducts missions in support of a memorandum of agreement between U.S. Department of Interior and U.S. Army Alaska for high-altitude rescue in the vicinity of Denali National Park.
