SAN DIEGO (March 13, 2019) Hospital Corpsman 1st Class Ivan Garcia, assigned to the amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8), receives a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal from Capt. Dave Oden, the ship’s commanding officer. Garcia is receiving the award for his work saving the life of a fellow Sailor.
