Lance Cpl. Tyler Dillard sights in on an M249 machine gun Jan. 28. The 21-year-old Bloomington, Ind., native serves as a machine gunner with Battalion Landing Team 3/1, the ground combat element of the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit. The unit is currently deployed as part of the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, a U.S. Central Command theater reserve force providing support for maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. Navy’s 5th Fleet area of responsibility.
