ARABIAN GULF (March 17, 2019) The crews of the Cyclone-class coastal patrol ships USS Thunderbolt (PC 12) and USS Whirlwind (PC 11) watch as the Thunderbolt gets underway. Thunderbolt is forward deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central Region, connecting the Mediterranean and the Pacific through the western Indian Ocean and three strategic choke points.
