U.S. Marine Corps Cpl. Bradley Brouwer, assigned to the Marine Corps Detachment, embarked aboard High Speed Vessel Swift, observes Peruvian Marines from Batallon De Infanteria De Marina No. 1, as they conduct basic rifle marksmanship exercises at Zona De Entrenamiento weapons range, as part of Southern Partnership Station 2012. The two Marine Corps will spend three weeks conducting subject matter expert exchanges and conducting practical exercises on areas that will include basic rifle marksmanship, patrolling in a desert environment, urban combat tactics and demolition techniques. HSV-SPS is an annual deployment of U.S. Navy ships and assets to the U.S. Southern Command's area of responsibility in the Caribbean, Central and South America. The exercise involves information sharing with Navies, Coast Guards and civilian services throughout the region. It also reiterates the countries partnership and commitment to regional cooperation throughout Latin America.
