A recruit with Mike Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, performs a rear choke on a fellow recruit during a Marine Corps Martial Arts Program class at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, March 18. The recruits are taught basic self-defense to prepare them for close combat encounters. Annually, more than 17,000 males recruited from the Western Recruiting Region are trained at MCRD San Diego. Mike Company is scheduled to graduate May 24.
