Sailors and Marines underway for Exercise Bold Alligator 2012 on the amphibious assault ship USS Wasp (LHD 1) react to the final play of Super Bowl XLV, Feb. 5. The National Football League championship game was viewed on a large projection screen in the ship's hangar bay to accommodate the approximately 2,000 sailors and Marines embarked on Wasp, the flagship for the exercise. Bold Alligator, the largest naval amphibious exercise in the past 10 years, represents the Navy and Marine Corps' revitalization of the full range of amphibious operations. The exercise which takes place Jan. 30 - Feb. 30, 2012 afloat and ashore in and around Virginia and North Carolina, focuses on today's fight with today's forces, while showcasing the advantages of seabasing.
