U.S. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Nathaniel Singleton high-fives kids during a community relations event at Santa Juliana Elementary School in Colonel Ernesto Ravina Air Base, Crow Valley Military Reservation, Capas, Tarlac, Philippines, March 30, 2019. “I remember growing up in South Africa, people would always come and give high fives to us kids. It always brought happiness to everyone, and that’s what I want to spread in return - happiness," said Singleton. This community relations event was orchestrated by the combined efforts of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, U.S. Marines, and the Australian Defence Force as part of Exercise Balikatan 2019. Balikatan is an annual military training exercise hosted by the Philippines between the AFP and U.S. military designed to build U.S. and Philippine defense readiness while strengthening multinational relationships.
