190401-N-IY469-005 – HMC Sonny O’Campo welcomes NMCP CPOs to the celebration the 126th birthday of the Navy’s chief petty officers during a cake cutting ceremony on Apr. 1. “Recognized worldwide by distinct leadership and overcoming adversity to accomplish the Navy's mission,” O’Campo said. “Chiefs continue to serve as trusted leaders, technical experts, advisors and mentors to enable America's combat-ready naval force to continuously flex more innovative and lethal in achieving operational excellence in all its domains. The heartbeat of communicating with our Sailors remains the chief. This is a critical time for the Navy as a current security environment becomes faster paced and complex. Now, more important than ever, we must build in the achievements and the hard lessons of the past 126 years. The Navy needs will need CPO speed even stronger and more flexible, backboned in ever leading a Navy team moving forward.”
