Hampton, Va. (March. 25, 2019) Aviation Ordnanceman Airman John Richardson, a Sailor from Abilene, Texas, and assigned to the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS George Washington’s (CVN 73) preventative maintenance division 14 (PM-14), sits in his workspace at the Light Industrial Facility (LIFAC). LIFAC is one of several off-ship production facilities George Washington is using while undergoing refueling complex overhaul (RCOH) at Newport News Shipyard. RCOH is a nearly four-year project performed only once during a carrier’s 50-year service life that includes refueling of the ship’s two nuclear reactors, as well as significant repair, upgrades, and modernization.
