Navy Master Chief Donald Davis, command master chief of 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing (MAW), right, and Chief Petty Officer Danielle Duty, chief hospital corpsman of Marine Wing Support Squadron 373, Marine Wing Support Group 37, 3rd MAW, cut a cake in honor of the 226th birthday of chief petty officers at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, Calif., April 1, 2019. The rank and revered title of chief petty officer has been celebrated annually since its establishment in 1893 to recognize the service of chiefs. Those Sailors who have earned the rank of chief are charged with developing their junior Sailors and instilling them with the core values of the Navy. Chiefs play a critical role in the MAW by providing strong and effective leadership to promote resiliency in Marines and Sailors as part of the commitment to “Fix, Fly, Fight” in future defense of the nation.
