Medically discharged Lance Cpl. Adam McCann, a Wounded Warrior with the veteran team, runs with his service dog, Holt, during track practice for the 2012 Marine Corps Trials at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif., Feb. 14. Wounded Warrior Marines, veterans and allies are competing in the second annual trials, which include swimming, wheelchair basketball, sitting volleyball, track and field, archery and shooting. The top 50 performing Marines will earn the opportunity to compete in the Wounded Warrior Games in Colorado Springs in May. McCann, from Cleveland, participated in last year's trials and didn't make the team, but did find out about Canine Companions for Independence, a group that helped pair him with Holt. Since then he's focused more on training, lost 20 pounds, and said he's happy to be at the trials again. "At home I'm by myself - no other Marines around," McCann said. "Me doing this is a way to stay with the Marine Corps even though I've been out for six years."
