U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. Richard Sompayrac, a member of a Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) recovery team, checks a piece of recovered material for serial numbers during a site excavation in the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, March 25, 2019. The team was searching for the remains of a service member who went missing during the Vietnam War. Through the testing of remains and serial numbers used on aircraft, DPAA is able to fulfill its mission of providing the fullest possible accounting of missing personnel to their families and the nation.
