Petty Officer 2nd Class Joshua Trout, a Solder Technician onboard USS Makin Island (LHD-8) reviews a Computer Aided Software (CAD) design during Additive Manufacturing training held at Southwest Regional Maintenance Center (SWRMC), April 8-12. His CAD design will become a printed gage cap, which is a much needed part for aviation fuel systems and has been approved for shipboard use. The course, taught by instructors from Naval Sea System Command is specifically tailored to provide Sailors with the tools to become technical experts in the design and production of AM parts for use with 3D printers being installed on four Navy Ships homeported in San Diego, with plans for future installation across the Fleet.
