U.S. Marine Gunnery Sgt. Patrick Keeling, right, the Maritime Raid Force operations chief, performs a gear check on Cpl. John Chipper, a Maritime Raid Force parachute rigger, both with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit, prior to freefall jump training during a MEU exercise. The training increases parachuting and jumpmaster proficiency, and ensures the Marines maintain combat readiness. Marines and Sailors with the 22nd MEU and Kearsarge Amphibious Ready Group are currently deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations in support of naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central region, connecting the Mediterranean and the Pacific through the western Indian Ocean and three strategic choke points.
