Carla Schempp and Airman 1st Class Baron Drinks, 379th Expeditionary Communications Squadron cable technicians, pull to remove an outer sheath from an optical fiber line at an undisclosed location in Southwest Asia Feb. 18, 2012. The actual fibers in the line are about 125 microns in diameter, roughly the size of a human hair, and the core of the fiber is only 9 microns in diameter.
