The Regimental Combat Team 6 Marine of the day is Cpl. Austin Kisow, 20, generator mechanic, Regimental Combat Team 6, from Coraopolis, Pa.
Kisow enlisted to join the Marine Corps Nov. 10, 2008, and he went to boot camp in August 2009.
Kisow joined the Marine Corps because his dad was a fire chief for more than 30 years and he wanted to be like him.
“I know there’s a difference, but it’s still civil service. I wanted to live a life at least half as respectful as my dad’s,” Kisow said. “I grew up in a firehouse lifestyle, always helping out others, so the Marine Corps was a good fit at giving back.”
Deeply religious Kisow believes in giving back by helping others. He credits his family and God for the reason he is where he’s at.
“Put others before self,” Kisow said. “That’s how you succeed. My family helped me out growing up, now I want to help others.”
After he finishes his tour of duty for the Marine Corps, Kisow plans to go to college at Pennsylvania State University, where he plans to major in either business or criminal justice.
“After I graduate I want to go work for the DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency),” Kisow said.
In his free time, Kisow likes to listen to music, his favorite is Christian metal. He also loves to watch sports, his two favorite teams are the Pittsburgh Steelers and Penguins.
Kisow was also co-captain of his ultimate Frisbee team throughout high school. He played in three different leagues, and he plans on playing in college.
“If I’m not watching a game or working, I have headphones on and am listening to my music,” Kisow laughed. “It’s been a rough year for me in football, but the penguins are still kicking butt, I went to three games this year before we deployed.”
Kisow confesses that he misses the food from back at home.
“I love pizza, I’ve eaten pizza all over the world, and no matter where it is, pizza tastes great,” Kisow said. “Besides, my mom’s home cooking pizza is the best.”
“I want to tell my family that I miss them and love them and I want to thank them for all their support,” Kisow said. “Kiss Tito for me.”
