190424-N-CL765-1010 U.S. 5TH FLEET AREA OF OPERATIONS (April 24, 2019) Lt. j.g. Jonathon Loud, front, attached to Patrol Squadron (VP) 40, toggles the interior lighting of a P-3C Orion aircraft while Lt. j.g. Wesley Howell uses the display control panel while preparing for flight. VP-40 is deployed to the U.S. 5th and 7th Fleet areas of operations in support of naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security. VP-40 is the last active-duty squadron to fly the P-3C Orion aircraft and after this deployment will transition to the P-8 Poseidon.
