190510-M-YD783-2211 ARABIAN SEA (MAY 10, 2019) U.S. Marine Cpl. Haley Brunette, a Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear defense specialist with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit, wears a self-contained breathing apparatus mask during scenario-based reconnaissance and sampling training in the well deck of the Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Kearsarge (LHD-3). The CBRN Marines conducted the training to maintain combat readiness standards and sharpen their skills. Marines and Sailors with the 22nd MEU and Kearsarge Amphibious Ready Group are deployed to the 5th Fleet area of operations in support of naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central Region, connecting the Mediterranean and the Pacific through the western Indian Ocean and three strategic choke points.
