Nearly 70 residents of Laie attended a May 6 public meeting where Honolulu District civil works project managers presented information on the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' proposed plan to reduce flood risk from Wailele stream to Lā‘ie town and residents in the Wailele watershed. Since 1879 there has been 14 storm events resulting in the stream over-topping and flooding Lā‘ie. The proposed plan includes enlarging the stream channel and construction of an overflow diversion outlet.
