Recruits with Fox Company, 2nd Recruit Training Battalion, execute a counter to the rear bear hug during a Marine Corps Martial Arts Program class at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, May 16. The recruits are taught basic self-defense to prepare them for close combat encounters. Annually, more than 17,000 males recruited from the Western Recruiting Region are trained at MCRD San Diego. Fox Company is scheduled to graduate June 28.
