U.S. Navy Hospital Corpsman 1st Class Vernon Goodwin, an Independent Duty Corpsman with Construction Diving Detachment Bravo (CDD/B), Underwater Construction Team 2 (UCT2) gives presentation during a subject matter expert exchange to strengthen local capacity to treat diving casualties and conduct hyperbaric medicine during Pacific Partnership 2019 (PP19). HM1 (SCW/EXW/SW/DV/FPJ) Goodwin was the sole U.S. facilitator for the PP19 coastal medicine exchange, leading two Japanese Self Defense Force doctors and 24 Vietnamese doctors and hyperbaric medical technicians through a 4-day exchange at the local hospital in Tuy Hoa, Vietnam. HM1 conducted class room training on neurological exams, pulmonary over inflation syndrome, decompression sickness, treatment of dangerous aquatic animal stings and basic principles of hyperbaric medicine. Pacific Partnership, now in its 14th iteration, is the largest annual multinational humanitarian assistance and disaster relief preparedness mission conducted in the Indo-Pacific. Each year, the mission team works collectively with host and partner nations to enhance regional interoperability and disaster response capabilities, increase stability and security in the region, and foster new and enduring friendships in the Indo-Pacific. UCT 2 provides responsive inshore and underwater construction capabilities needed to construct, inspect, repair, and maintain ocean facilities as well as underwater systems (U.S. Navy photo by Lt.
