CAPE MAY, N.J. -- Chief Petty Officer Paul Jones, the officer-in-charge of Aids to Navigation Team South Padre Island, Texas, talks to recruits from U.S. Coast Guard Training Center Cape May about his experiences as a boatswains mate, and life lessons learned along the way, as part of the Coast Guard’s Etheridge Initiative, May 29, 2019.

The purpose of the Etheridge Initiative is to get more minority groups interested in the boatswains mate rating by having experts come and talk to them about the importance of having a diverse workforce, and how bringing different groups of people with different backgrounds and perspectives, helps to accomplish the mission.
