Mock American refugees climb into the back of a 7-ton truck during a noncombatant evacuation exercise following a humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operation exercise here, March 11. Part of the MEU’s certification exercise, the scenario included elements of Battalion Landing Team 1st Battalion, 4th Marines and Combat Logistics Battalion 31. After relief efforts were conducted, the scenario moved into a noncombatant evacuation exercise of American locals. Following the completion of CERTEX, the 31st MEU will continue their deployment in the Asia-Pacific region. The 31st MEU is the only continuously forward-deployed MEU and remains the nation’s force in readiness in the Asia-Pacific region.
